Southport Australian Football Club (Southport Sharks) is a Gold Coast based club competing in the NEAFL Australian Rules Football league. It is one of the largest clubs in Queensland and has more than 50,000 members.
Accountability for rostering and payroll management was becoming difficult with the dated payroll solution that Southport Sharks were using, which was amplified by the limited support available from their supplier at the time.
It got to the stage where the Sharks’ payroll team were trying to interpret what hours their staff were working, something that usually should be dealt by the team’s managers. The payroll process had become laborious and often managers would not know what time their staff were working. Problems included managers thinking specific staff members were rostered for a morning shift but then found the employee coming to work that afternoon instead.
Southport Sharks needed to create separation between payroll and rostering functions. They then sought out a payroll system had to connect well with their new roster system, TimeTarget, was familiar with working with football clubs, and had heritage in the industry. This decision would have to decide the Shark’s payroll environment for the next 10 years.
Sage MicrOpay ticked all the boxes fort he Southport Sharks and they were impressed by the amount of support they offered pre and post installation.
Since Southport Sharks made the switch, managers are now more accountable and have a better understanding of what staff are doing and when.
