Sage CEO joins The Board of Go ON UK and commits to help the UK get digitally skilled

Sage Group plc, a leading provider of business management software, has joined the Board of Go ON UK, the leading digital skills charity working to ensure everyone in the UK has the Basic Digital Skills they need.

Stephen Kelly, Sage Group plc CEO, has joined existing Board members Age UK, Argos, BBC, Big Lottery Fund EE, E.ON , Lloyds Banking Group, Post Office and TalkTalk, to work together to help the 10.5 million adults who lack the Basic Digital Skills needed to benefit from the opportunities the internet has to offer.

On joining the Board, Sage has signed up to Go ON UK’s mission, which includes commitments to their Digital Skills Charter, created to ensure every person in the UK can develop their digital skills.

Sage Group plc CEO, Stephen Kelly commented: “Small & Medium Businesses are the heroes of the economy, responsible for 66% of the 2.2m UK jobs created since 2010.  However, 1.2m small businesses still lack the Basic Digital Skills to thrive in today’s digital society. For example, it is amazing that only just over half (53%) of organisations have a website*”

“For people running or working in businesses, the time has never been better to embrace digital as a way of improving the way they work and collaborating with customers, suppliers, employees and the wider community. Digital has the power to unlock so much potential and open new opportunities for small businesses and raise their eyes to lucrative export markets.  Connectivity and technology infrastructure is important, but helping people to grow by supporting their access to the right digital skills is absolutely vital. We are delighted to be supporting Go ON UK and look forward to helping more individuals and businesses develop their digital skills.

Baroness Lane-Fox, Chair of Go ON UK, said: “We are delighted to welcome Stephen Kelly from Sage Group to the Board of Go ON UK. Millions of organisations use Sage’s services to transform the way they work, and it is that knowledge of small and medium sized businesses that will make Sage such a valuable partner in our mission to help everyone in the UK have the Basic Digital Skills they need.”
