A US General, an Emmy Award winner, a world-renowned author, a skateboarder and a comedian…in New Orleans?
We hear you, business owners – we’ll work as hard as you do and will champion you in your pursuit of your dreams. Fighting for the ‘Little Guys’ is a noble cause.
Think about how you found this blog. You might have opened a link that was shared on a social media channel or found the link on your mobile web browser. A simple click. But what’s simple to us, is alien and scary to many others.
It’s becoming increasingly apparent that Business Rates as they currently stand are outdated and archaic - punishing Small & Medium businesses at a time when they need our support.
On Wednesday, Sage hosted its Capital Markets Day in London, the first where Steve Hare & the new Management Team presented. CMDs give companies like Sage the opportunity to speak directly with investors and analysts setting out a vision for the future.
Now that the dust has settled following the British General Election, attention has turned to the referendum on the UK’s membership of the EU.
Running your own business can be a daunting and sometimes lonely experience. It’s also very time consuming. A recent survey of Small and Medium businesses in the UK conducted by Sage revealed that 88% of business owners take work on holiday with them; 30% of entrepreneurs do not take their holidays; 51% work more than 50 hours per week and 1/4 work more than 60 hours per week. Hat tip to you business owners – you live to work and work to live by pursuing your passion. We are humbled! A story of self-sacrifice.
Most of us realise the importance of doing something that benefits the communities we live in. In the US, for example, the average person supports 4.5 charitable organisations and more than $143.6 billion is donated to charity each year.
Humans have a habit of wanting to separate people into different categories, ignoring that more often than not, we’re driven by the same things. Remember, the enemy is always on the outside. Forget Front Office vs Back Office, think One Unified Office serving customers, with everyone energising the success of your business.
The real-time business revolution is happening now – naturally. Can your business afford to be late to the game?
It is remarkable that there has been so little innovation in accounting. The genesis of today’s double-entry book-keeping with journals and ledgers was invented in the 15th Century with the Medici Family and Florentine merchants. Luca Pacioli in his 27 page thesis in 1494 cast the stones for batch-oriented ledger postings and journal entries. Some five hundred years later, batch and paper based book-keeping remains the norm for many businesses.
We’ve been working with Salesforce.com. By combining the world’s #1 CRM solution and enterprise cloud platform with the world’s #1 small business accounting, payments and payroll solution, we’ve been able to completely redefine what it means to run a business and have today jointly launched Sage Life.
Championing Small & Medium Businesses is both my personal passion and the heartland of Sage. In a recent, pre-Election blog, I called for the next Government to continue supporting Small & Medium Businesses that are the Powerhouse of the Economy and job creation. Now the Government is elected, it is absolutely vital that David Cameron’s new cabinet doesn’t lose sight of the businesses that are the engine room of the UK, and can power UK forward to prosperity to 2020.
