Sage deliver SMB online business solutions on Windows Azure

Alliance with Microsoft advances Sage’s web strategy and development of cloud versions of leading ERP solutions

The Sage Group plc today announces that it has entered into an agreement with Microsoft to develop certain Sage SMB ERP solutions on the Windows Azure cloud platform. The focus of development will start in Europe with Sage 200 in the UK and Sage Murano in Spain using Windows Azure. The solutions are in development now, will be rolled out to a small number of pilot sites in the coming months and come to market in 2013. The solutions will also be interoperable with Microsoft Office 365.

Combining Sage’s highly popular SMB ERP solutions with a web platform provides a powerful and non-disruptive answer both for new and existing customers as they progressively move to the cloud. The development will provide a choice of deployment without a trade-off of capabilities. Designed for scale, security, resilience and flexibility, the cloud versions of Sage 200 and Sage Murano will automate all relevant aspects of subscription lifecycle and system management, be capable of handling thousands of customer instances and the interaction of tens of thousands of users. They will also be adaptable for mobile. Customers will benefit from a compelling cost of ownership as they will require no in-house IT infrastructure, minimal upfront expenses, no long-term commitment and will pay only for the resource they need.

Walid Abu-Hadba, corporate vice president, developer and platform evangelism, at Microsoft Corp., commented, “Windows Azure and Sage can give SMB customers a solution that can be used anywhere in the world and can grow with the business while keeping costs aligned with usage needs. We are delighted that Sage recognizes that Windows Azure offers SMBs the next generation of business technology, and we are excited that we can deliver value to these customers together.”

Antoine Henry, CEO Sage France, and Sage Europe’s SMB market segment leader, says, “This is great news for our SMB customers who want both the best of on-premise applications and the benefits of the web. It is also very important for Sage because it shows momentum in the delivery of our web strategy and our commitment to a consistent technology and platform strategy.”

Henry concludes, “A diverse eco-system requires more standards and the alliance provides this plus a direct way to engage with a whole range of Microsoft products. A fully featured platform as a service (PaaS) approach allows us to speed up development of domain specific customer applications, boost productivity, accelerate time to market and reduce duplication. It shows how we are collaborating across our business to deploy resources and expertise efficiently to solve the common challenges that our customers face.”
