Charlie\u2019s Angels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>History and media are rich with examples of what we<br>\nmight call \u2018perfect\u2019 teams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As HR and People leaders, we want to know the secret<br>\nto building the perfect team. It can help get the most out of our employees,<br>\nmake them feel happier at work and improve retention and productivity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But there\u2019s an even more pressing need for great teams<br>\nright now \u2013 and specifically within HR.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-goodbye-hr-hello-people\">Goodbye HR, hello People<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>HR is changing. As<br>\nour research report, \u2018The changing face of HR\u2019, shows, the changes on<br>\nthe horizon over the next three years are significant. To cope with this, HR<br>\nneeds to move away from its traditional model to a more people-focused approach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Where once it was once a back-office function, HR and<br>\nPeople departments are now strategic business partners delivering bottom-line<br>\nvalue for organizations. Therefore, along with the traditional skills required,<br>\nHR and People professionals also need to be a team of experts with the<br>\nabilities to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>think and plan<br><br>strategically<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>align HR goals<br><br>with business goals<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>drive change<br><br>while keeping morale high<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>evaluate, design,<br><br>implement and adjust reward systems that help meet business goals<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>use data-driven<br><br>approaches and insights to analyze people patterns<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>identify and<br><br>predict employment trends<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>help create a<br><br>flourishing company environment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>build great<br><br>employee experiences to improve engagement and productivity<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-do-you-have-the-right-people-to-meet-these-challenges\">Do you have the right people to meet these challenges?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Some of the skills outlined above will already be<br>\ncovered within your HR and People team, but many of them will not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>HR and People Leaders told us the skills they felt would<br>\nbe most important in three years are: communications; people analytics; creativity;<br>\nand technological abilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, of these four critical skills, HR and People<br>\nleaders felt they had significant skills gaps in all but communications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unsurprisingly then, a massive 86% of HR and People<br>\nleaders said they believe HR skillsets need to change. So how to fill these<br>\ncrucial gaps and create the perfect team?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-1-understand-what-the-hr-team-of-the-future-will-look-like\">1. Understand what the HR team of the future will look<br>\nlike<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>HR is undergoing a revolution and organizations that are<br>\nPeople-focused are leading the charge. The perfect team will be better than ever<br>\nat understanding and analyzing their people so they can deliver excellent experiences<br>\nall the way through the employment cycle. People will be at the center of<br>\neverything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-2-embrace-change-and-agile-working\">2. Embrace change and agile working<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The perfect HR and People team is agile and responsive.<br>\nThis new agile way of working means teams are continuously learning and<br>\nadapting \u2013 they can get quicker feedback, implement changes faster and take<br>\nremedial action when it\u2019s needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Working on cross-functional project teams is another<br>\nway to significantly improve productivity. However, agile working often<br>\nrequires investment in technology\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-3-invest-in-technology\">3. Invest in technology<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Cloud and mobile technologies are changing the way we<br>\nwork. Yet while HR and People Leaders <em>want <\/em>to invest in new technology, 57%<br>\ntold us they are held back due to resourcing restrictions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, 43% told us their organization won\u2019t be<br>\nable to keep up with the changes in technology. This is having an impact on the<br>\nefficiency and agility of HR and People teams, and a knock-on effect on whole<br>\norganizations. A successful HR and People team is empowered to invest in<br>\ntechnology as well as employing people with the skills to get the best out of<br>\nthe tech.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-4-use-actionable-insights-to-make-smart-decisions\">4. Use actionable insights to make smart decisions<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When selecting the right people to create your perfect team, clever use of data can help you make and evaluate your people decisions \u2013 from hiring to choosing personalized rewards for your staff. In fact, our research found that 24% of People Leaders are already using AI to select the candidates who will be the best fit for the team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, as with tech, there needs to be investment in<br>\ndata and people analytics, as well finding the right people who can get the<br>\nmost out of the data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-5-look-beyond-the-norm\">5. Look beyond the norm<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In these changing times, you need to curate your own<br>\ndiverse teams that can respond to current and future business challenges. When<br>\nhiring, it\u2019s important to look beyond traditional HR skills and find people<br>\nwith something extra to offer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, do you have the right mix of creatively<br>\nminded people and data-driven people? If not, are you able to find them \u2013<br>\neither internally or externally?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-6-encourage-upskilling\">6. Encourage upskilling<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A great alternative to hiring new people to plug<br>\ncreative, analytical or data gaps is upskilling. You equip your current team<br>\nwith additional skills so they can step up. Rotational assignments are one<br>\nmethod of upskilling: team members get to spend time (often 3-6 months) in a<br>\ncolleague\u2019s role, and vice versa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-finally-remember-there-s-no-such-thing-as-perfect\">Finally, remember: there\u2019s no such thing as perfect<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>There\u2019s no such thing as perfect. However, that<br>\ndoesn\u2019t mean you shouldn\u2019t aim as high as possible.
