Case Study

Graduate case study: Abigail Greenwood – Graduate Engineer

Before my current role at Sage, I did not have any experience in software. I studied math at university and then I went straight into an actuarial career. I decided to make the switch to software development as I love the challenge it provides, and after some self-directed learning, I realized it was a something I really enjoyed doing.

Tell us about your role at Sage.

I am a graduate software developer based in Manchester, UK. I work on the Online Compliance applications in a team with six other developers and three testers. In addition to this, we work closely with our colleagues and their teams all over the globe.

What do you enjoy the most about your role at Sage?

I am able to take responsibility for tickets and see them through to completion. I have a very supportive team and I am given the time to be able to figure things out by myself, while also being offered help when needed.

What tips do you have for anyone thinking of applying?

If you are applying for a developer role and you don't have much experience, I would recommend completing online courses as well as taking the initiative to make a simple app to showcase what you have learned.
