It&#8217;s important to understand your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sage.com\/en-gb\/blog\/what-is-auto-enrolment\/\">workplace pension duties<\/a> and who is eligible ahead of your auto enrolment staging date so that you have enough time to prepare your business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Planning ahead can make all the difference. Here&#8217;s where you should start:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-know-your-auto-enrolment-staging-date\">Know your auto enrolment staging date<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Go to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thepensionsregulator.gov.uk\/employers\/staging-date.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pensions Regulator&#8217;s website<\/a> and enter your PAYE reference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-familiarise-yourself-with-the-legislation\">Familiarise yourself with the legislation<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Make sure you&#8217;re equipped with the information you need to stay compliant; our <a href=\"https:\/\/shop.sage.co.uk\/traininglanding.aspx\">auto enrolment training<\/a> can help you with this. Some eligible employees may decide they don&#8217;t want to contribute towards a workplace pension and must actively opt out. Similarly, not all of your employees will be eligible for auto enrolment but may still be able to opt in to a pension scheme, in which case you will be obliged to enrol them. The rules and requirements on contributions for these employees will be different and you might not need to make an employer&#8217;s contribution for them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-communicate-with-your-employees\">Communicate with your employees<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Make sure you have all the correct contact details for them. You&#8217;ll need to tell them about the new workplace pension scheme, their rights and how this may affect their take-home pay to manage their expectations well ahead of time. The <a title=\"Visit the Pensions Regulator website\" href=\"http:\/\/www.thepensionsregulator.gov.uk\/employers\/tools\/staging-date.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pensions Regulator website<\/a> offers letter templates to help.
