That requires a flexible workplace and the right technology to make that a reality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Consider macro-trends in the global workforce, for example: baby boomers are making way for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sage.com\/en-gb\/blog\/millennials-teach-money-management\/\">millennials and Generation Z<\/a>, who have a whole new set of needs and expectations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Growing up in the tech-integrated world, the younger cohort is hard-wired for getting things done on the move and this has altered the parameters of traditional working life beyond recognition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, what does your business need to do to unify your workplace and energise your employees? If they can\u2019t get into work due to adverse weather, for example, by providing flexible working, they can work from home and your business can stay productive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also, going back to the point on Generation Z, it\u2019s understandable that most 17 to 24-year-olds would be more likely to apply for a job with flexible working hours, which means firms that insist on doing things the old-fashioned way risk alienating the talent of tomorrow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A flexible workplace and mobility are crucial for working parents too, as indicated by recent online petitioning to the UK government to define flexibility as \u201cwork that works for employees and business\u201d, instead of an arrangement that simply suits workers\u2019 needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rajesh Agrawal, the deputy mayor of London for business, said: \u201cNot only do [flexible working practices] make a huge difference to employees\u2019 quality of life, they also enable businesses to better tap into the best pool of talent.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He touched on some key benefits: studies show flexible organisations are happier places, where turnover and absenteeism rates fall. The fundamental reason for this is that employees, when trusted and afforded more freedom, take more control. They buy in to their roles more and take their productivity more seriously; given more, they give more back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If your business embraces mobility to the full, you can expect to access the\u00a0global talent pool\u00a0to which Rajesh refers: workers who can operate efficiently whether they\u2019re sitting side by side, or collaborating via a video link or business chat application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-use-cloud-computing\"><strong>Use cloud computing<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Instead of silos, disparate apps and disjointed workflows, use cloud computing. Your employees will be able to access a single system holding all the information they need and that updates in real time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As everything is safely stored online, staff can operate with full mobility to get a better employee experience and have the collaborative tools they need to work smarter. The result? A happier, more engaged team that achieves more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Executives will also benefit with the use of cloud computing \u2013 your boardroom meetings, for example, can be held anywhere and even across different time zones, with everyone having access to real-time data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It also opens to doors to flexible working too \u2013 employees can carry out tasks and keep up with progress updates without fear of missing something if they\u2019re working out of the office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sage.com\/en-gb\/blog\/cloud-computing-solve-payment-woes\/\">cloud computing<\/a> signals the end of printouts of company data. Instead, you can replace them with up-to-date information on all operations, which are viewable via one dashboard from any device, including a mobile phone or tablet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-try-accounting-software\"><strong>Try accounting software<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Growing a business can be challenging but it\u2019s also an exciting time.
