As a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sage.com\/en-gb\/blog\/business-records-limited-company\/\">limited company<\/a> director, you are effectively employed by your own business.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Accounting. <\/strong>You\u2019ll need to record all customer payments, expenses (equipment, travel, etc.) and pay your taxes on time. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sage.com\/en-gb\/accounting-software\/\">Accounting software<\/a> can make this much easier by creating and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sage.com\/en-gb\/accounting-software\/invoicing\/\">sending professional invoices<\/a>, tracking who\u2019s paid you and helping you prepare your books.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Hiring people. <\/strong>If you plan to hire other people, you\u2019ll need to pay them a salary and fulfil your legal obligations as an employer. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sage.com\/en-gb\/sage-business-cloud\/payroll\/\">Payroll software<\/a> can support you to do this by automatically calculating employee wages, sorting out tax and making sure you comply with HMRC&#8217;s requirements.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-6-get-to-grips-with-finance\">6. Get busy branding<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Your cleaning business will need a name and a logo \u2013 especially if you plan to grow. Choosing a name is a key decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It should be short, easy to remember and hint at your specialism (commercial\/residential\/specialist).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Always check that someone else hasn\u2019t already taken the name with the Companies House <a href=\"https:\/\/find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk\/company-name-availability\">name availability checker<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Only limited companies can register and reserve a business name, and therefore prevent other people from taking the same name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You needn\u2019t spend a lot of money on getting a logo designed. You can often find a graphic designer on sites such as Fiverr who\u2019ll produce something for you for a low fee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As part of your branding, you might want to design a simple uniform for your staff bearing the logo too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-9-market-your-cleaning-business\">9. Market your cleaning business<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Many cleaning businesses gain their first customers through word of mouth.
