businesses buy from companies based outside the UK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Put simply, if the reverse charge applies then it shifts the requirement to account for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sage.com\/en-gb\/blog\/glossary\/what-is-vat\/\">VAT<\/a> from the seller to the buyer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It therefore requires the buyer to pay the amount of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sage.com\/en-gb\/blog\/what-is-vat-uk-vat-basics-from-sage\/\">VAT<\/a> that would have paid if the purchase had been made in the UK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For businesses that are VAT-registered, you need to include this reverse charge in your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sage.com\/en-gb\/blog\/vat-return-making-tax-digital\/\">VAT return<\/a> for the quarter and also need to include it in things such as invoices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you reclaim VAT, you can also reclaim the reverse charge amount \u2013 so the reverse charge is little different in reality to other VAT
