New research recognises Irish business’ optimistic trade ambitions as Sage celebrates 20 years serving the nation’s businesses

Sage today issues research highlighting the bullish trading ambitions of Ireland’s business, with 62% expecting trade to increase, despite global political and economic uncertainty.

Dublin, Ireland, 24 July 2019 – Sage, the market leader in cloud business management solutions, today marks 20 years of serving customers in Ireland. Following its establishment in July 1999, Sage Ireland has grown to deliver the technology solutions that businesses need to be productive and compliant and navigate uncertain market conditions, while supporting their growth and helping them reach their full potential. To mark the celebration of this milestone, Sage today issues research highlighting the bullish trading ambitions of Ireland’s business, with 62% expecting trade to increase, despite global political and economic uncertainty.

Sage has seen the transformative impact that technology and digitisation has contributed to the success of businesses today and the import-led Irish economy. In particular, Sage research shows that Irish businesses are more likely to have overseas trade ambitions than international counterparts.

Of 3,000 small, medium and large businesses surveyed across 12 markets, a clear majority of businesses in Ireland (62%) expect that the amount of trade that they carry out with customers and suppliers will increase over the next year, with only 13% expecting the amount of trade to fall.

According to Sage’s research, 59% of Irish businesses have active exporting strategies which indicates that Ireland is one of the markets most likely to export goods, more so than the UK, France of Germany. Only counterparts in Brazil (64%) and Spain (76%) are more likely to have exported goods. Amongst those Irish businesses exporting, the main export destinations are Western Europe (44%), Eastern Europe (32%) and the USA (29%).

Sabby Gill, MD Sage UK & Ireland

"I’m proud of the role that Sage has played in Ireland over the past 20 years, creating technology solutions that help Irish businesses succeed.

With 60% of Irish businesses recognising the importance of overseas trade for their businesses, it is essential that we help them realise their export ambitions through increased adoption of cloud solutions and supportive policies, especially in the wake of increased international competition.

Sage is committed helping achieve this vision for Ireland’s thriving landscape and we look forward to another 20 years working alongside the country’s ambitious businesses.”

In the company’s 20 years in Ireland, Sage has greatly benefited from the renowned technology talent pool in Dublin. It has established a global centre of excellence for digital marketing, a software development team and a customer success function, in addition to its sales business for its customer and partner ecosystem in Ireland.

Stephanie Davies, Long-standing partner, founder and MD of Pimbrook:

I founded Pimbrook 13 years ago and we chose Sage software from day one as it deployed, implemented & supported our customers most efficiently. We started in the enterprise software market but have seen big growth in small to medium enterprise, growing our business by 30%.

We are seeing great benefits from the move to monthly subscription service as it helps our customers cash flow but also gives them access to all service updates. Our customers have also commented on the ease of Sage’s software integrating more features that may benefit them in their vertical.”

Declan Murphy, Audit Director, O’Neill Foley, Chartered Accountants:

“In the 20 years we’ve been a customer, the company has evolved to become the market leader in providing core accounting solutions for many Irish businesses. Sage is set apart from its competitors by its awareness and ability to continuously provide incremental improvements some of which are customer driven and others related to external market factors, making it relevant for all businesses.

Sage has recognised that clients need and expect more access to real time data and the use of subscription packages which facilitate cloud functionality not only have the benefit of continuous updates and new features for the client but they also provide more opportunity for us to provide outsourced services that wouldn’t have been possible previously using desktop based packages. Our relationship with Sage has allowed us to evolve and bring our clients along the technology journey.”
