Nowadays, the term is increasingly being replaced by &#8216;People&#8217;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In an era of employee engagement, it can be unhelpful and dehumanising to think of the people who power your organisation as &#8216;resources&#8217;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The term &#8216;human resources&#8217; refers to the people who work in a company. The human resources or HR department is the team that usually looks after employee management and development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Typical responsibilities include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Data administration<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Recruitment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pay and benefits<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Training<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Talent management<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Absence and grievance management<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Health and safety<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Working practices and policies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Increasingly, HR or People leaders are playing a strategic role at board level, providing vital insight into the employer brand and the current and future workforce as key success factors in business growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Productivity, motivation, talent and working practices are all strategic People issues that affect profitability, competitiveness and ability to attract and retain the right people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The old HR role is broadening to become a more
