M-Pesa Foundation Academy clinches CIO 100 accolade for deployment of Sage enterprise software

M-Pesa Foundation Academy has won a silver award for enterprise information technology adoption at the annual CIO 100 Symposium and awards for East Africa. The accolade acknowledges the organisation’s use of the Sage Business Cloud Enterprise Management solution to drive innovation and operational excellence. Greytrix was the Sage business partner responsible for the software rollout at the Academy.

The CIO 100 Symposium celebrates 100 organisations (and the people within them) using information technology in innovative ways to deliver business value, whether by creating competitive advantage, optimising business processes, enabling growth or improving relationships with customers.

Founded in 2016, M-Pesa Foundation Academy is part of the corporate social responsibility commitments at Safaricom. The M-Pesa Foundation Academy won accolades for using the Sage Business Cloud Enterprise Management solution to strengthen back-office efficiency, enhance the professionalism of its administration, and ultimately, release time and resources to focus on students and staff,

“It doesn’t matter that our students come from extreme poverty. They use the best technology — and so does the team in our back-office,” says Paul Githuka, head of technology and learning innovations, M-Pesa Foundation Academy. “We are delighted to receive this recognition for our effort to create an administration that is as efficient and progressive as our teaching.”

The leading-edge Sage solution used at the Academy features the latest technologies, including cloud hosting and a web- and mobile-enabled interface. It automates back-office processes from financial, inventory and fixed-asset management to budgeting, sales, procurement and human resources.

Procurement is now more efficient, suppliers are paid in a timelier manner and payroll is streamlined. The system has removed many manual processes from the business, inventory tracking is easier and more accurate, and reporting is faster. The Academy can now manage 1,500 devices with a staff of two, freeing the IT department’s time to focus on innovation.
