Payroll is typically the number one concern for many small business owners worried about getting it right.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But it needn\u2019t be difficult \u2013 here are our eight top tips to make payroll easier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-1-know-your-big-deadlines\">1.Know your big deadlines<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDealing with accounting deadlines and employee returns is much less stressful when you know what you need to action well in advance,\u201d advises Rachel Parkin, creative director at the Balagan Group and a Sage Business Expert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Make sure you have a good system in place that alerts you to important dates and if you need to do anything. Working ahead gives you time to sort out any blips or problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-2-invest-in-payroll-software\">2. Invest in payroll software<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><mark class=\"highlight-and-share\">Payroll software will automate the whole process for you, taking care of things tax calculations, generating payslips for employees, keeping up with legislation&nbsp;and providing information for end of year tax returns.<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-3-get-good-support-for-your-payroll-software\">3. Get good support for your payroll software<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you use a software or online package, and a technical glitch is preventing staff from being paid, you\u2019ll want help at hand to save stress and embarrassment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Always check that online or telephone support is part of the deal and easily available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-4-be-a-stickler-for-detail\">4. Have a financial back-up plan<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Keeping on top of payments is crucial in any growing business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Setting up a good credit control system, sending out invoices promptly and always chasing late payments firmly as soon as they become due will help avoid cash flow disruption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If one of your customers doesn\u2019t pay on time and you can\u2019t pay your staff, your business could be in trouble.
