Some businesses are actively encouraging staff to take up mobile working.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What does \u2018mobile working\u2019 actually mean?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When you think about mobile working, what springs to mind? Working from home, maybe sales teams on the road. But it\u2019s wider than that, it\u2019s working any place that isn\u2019t your office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are five benefits that mobile working can bring to your business:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Cost savings and efficiencies<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Allowing staff to work remotely can significantly reduce your overheads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s possible that you may be able to offer mobile working as a benefit and reduce your salary overhead. Research from Arise shows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>58% of workers would take a pay cut to be able to work from home<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>25% would be happy with a lower salary if they could avoid their commute<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>There\u2019s good news on efficiency too.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sage.com\/en-sg\/blog\/tips-to-manage-flexible-working-in-your-business\/\">Flexible working<\/a>&nbsp;slashes absenteeism from 8.5% to 3.1% so you\u2019ll reap the benefits of healthier employees with less time off work. And if they are sick, they won\u2019t be bringing those germs into the office, which minimises the spread of illness too!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Access to new workers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Do you struggle to recruit qualified staff? Remote working could be the answer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many people who don\u2019t currently work would consider going back to the workplace if they could work more flexibly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>60% of mature workers say they would take up teleworking if it was available. They\u2019d also delay retirement by an average of 6.6 years, so you\u2019d get the benefit of their experience for longer.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>74% of people who are currently not working would consider going back if they could work remotely.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Hardware that\u2019s not hard-wired<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Having the right hardware is vital for allowing your staff to remain connected when they\u2019re out and about.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><mark class=\"highlight-and-share\">Don\u2019t automatically assume that staff who work remotely will need a laptop. Many people now use tablets instead \u2013 research by Holiday Inn Express found that 58% of mobile workers travel without a laptop.<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If cost is an issue for you, consider allowing staff to use their own device to access your work systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-4-software-that-works-wherever-you-do\">4. Software that works wherever you do<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>With the rise of video calls and shared folders like Dropbox, it\u2019s now easier to share information and stay in touch with other people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As well as using cloud storage and systems like Skype, you\u2019ll also need to ensure your software is available. This can be via remote access or over the cloud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-5-effective-management-of-staff\">5. Effective management of staff<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, don\u2019t forget about managing your remote workers just as you would with your office staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The main thing is to keep communication flowing, with lots of conversations. This can be on the phone, over email, via Skype \u2013 whatever works for you and your team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In terms of work, try to set clear targets so both you and the worker understand what\u2019s expected.
