Who We Are

Our story

Like the business builders we serve, Sage began as a modest British startup with a big ambition.

Our founder David Goldman wanted to automate accounting processes in his own business. Working with a team of Newcastle University students, he developed a software to make it happen—and realised other businesses could benefit from it too. In 1981, our founder David Goldman faced a problem. He wanted to create quotes quickly for his print business and keep track of his accounts. So David worked with a team from Newcastle including Dr. Paul Muller, a computer expert who had worked with NASA, and student Graham Wylie. Some eight years later, Sage was listed on the London Stock Exchange with a £20m valuation.

Sage has over 13,000 employees and serves millions of customers in 23 countries across Europe, Africa, Australia, Asia, Latin America, and North America.

What we do

Sage is the market leader for integrated accounting, payroll, and payment systems, supporting the ambitions of the world’s entrepreneurs.

We help drive today’s business builders with a new generation of solutions to manage everything from money to people.

Our mission is to free business builders from the burden of admin, so they can spend more time doing what they love – and we do that every day for three million customers across 23 countries, through our 13 000 colleagues and a network of accountants and partners. We are committed to doing business the right way and giving back to our communities through Sage Foundation.

Our vision

To transform the way people think and work, so their organisations can thrive.

We want to become a great SaaS company for our customers and colleagues alike.

Our values

Customers first

Our customers are at the heart of everything we do, they are why we are here and we wouldn't exist without them.

We are agile and action-orientated; we keep things simple, deliver at pace and overachieve.

Do the right thing

Our colleagues are aligned and we trust each other to do the right thing to enable our customers to succeed.

We create new ways of doing things and deliver innovative solutions which our customers need to help their business grow.

Make a difference

Sage is a great place to work and our colleagues help make a positive difference to local communities by relentlessly supporting our customers and their businesses to be successful.

Diversity and Inclusion

Action groups

Sage has over 13,000 employees and serves millions of customers in 23 countries across Europe, Africa, Australia, Asia, Latin America, and North America.

Unconscious bias training

We train our colleagues to be mindful of unconscious bias so everyone in our business understands how they can overcome biases and make objective decisions in the workplace.

Women in technology

We're committed to increasing the number of women in leadership and technology roles in Sage. We work with schools and universities supporting the STEM agenda. We ensure our recruitment processes and apprenticeship programmes attract a broad range of candidates. Our Women's Mentoring Programme supports our objective to increase the number of women in leadership and technology roles.

Mentoring program

We launched our [email protected] Mentoring Program in 2016. Our mentors are 50% male and 50% female, and come from across our organisation, including all of our Executive Committee. Although this formal initiative is aimed at women at Sage, informal mentoring is already happening across the business every day, and we have designed guidance, training and tools to equip mentors and mentees with the skills they need.
