Prior to my career in finance, I worked as a&nbsp;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">p<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">aramedic<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&nbsp;but I have always had a fascination with numbers. I\u2019ve dabbled in finance for as long as I can remember \u2013 since I was able to open my own checking account<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">, which I think was at 13 years old. I remember asking my Grandmother to co-sign because I was too young. I would collect aluminum cans for recycling from our family restaurant and she would bring me to cash them in for dollars. The more dollars the better!<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:276}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&nbsp;<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Sage: What\u2019s the initiative or accomplishment you\u2019re most proud of during your career?&nbsp;<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&nbsp;<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:276}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&nbsp;<\/span><b><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">JG<\/span><\/i><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">:&nbsp;<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">I take great pride in having adopted and integrated new technologies into my company\u2019s business workflo<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">w.&nbsp;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Before beginning my career at Ballard Brands, the company had&nbsp;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">zero&nbsp;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">infrastructure \u2013 I was genuinely working from the ground up.&nbsp;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">A crazy start to a crazier future. Over the years, we&nbsp;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">digitized everything<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">,&nbsp;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">which has helped&nbsp;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">our<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&nbsp;business<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">&nbsp;in every<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&nbsp;aspect.&nbsp;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">I owe a special thanks to our company owners for extending their trust and support while allowing me autonomy to achieve my vision of building them a credible accounting &amp; finance department.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:276}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Sage: What skills do you think are paramount for finance professionals today? It is also important to hold yourself accountable for your actions and in my case, the actions of many others.&nbsp;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">It&#8217;s important to have the ability to make your own decisions and be able to have the trust that if you spend money, you&#8217;re spending it in the right place.&nbsp;<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:276}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Additionally, ensuring you are up-to-date with everything will guarantee you have your finger on the pulse of how the company is operating financially \u2013 which also allows you to pinpoint opportunities to streamline processes<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">&nbsp;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">and identify areas for improvement.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:276}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&nbsp;<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Sage: In a post-pandemic world, what do you think will be the most important role of a CFO? Never stop&nbsp;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">think<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">ing<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&nbsp;of ways to&nbsp;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">make things more efficient and credible.&nbsp;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Instead of dwelling on the hardships that the pandemic has dealt to the business, financial leaders should take this as an opportunity to triage their current business processes<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">, review vendor agreements, and prepare to surface as more efficient and profitable business.&nbsp;<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:276}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:276}\">&nbsp;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">A CFO must be able to manage pressure without losing focus. You will develop thick skin.
