The company has dramatically improved its budgeting, forecasting, and reporting beyond what was possible with Excel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSage Intacct Budgeting and Planning gives us great flexibility to expand our reporting and forecasting and increase visibility much more efficiently than we could have if we&nbsp;stuck with Excel,\u201d as Kyle MacDonald, director of finance and operations, says in our new&nbsp;customer success story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"single-cta\">\n\t<div class=\"single-cta__positioner\">\n\t\t<div class=\"single-cta__wrapper has-dark-background-color\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"single-cta__content\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"single-cta__title h3\">Aegis Case Study<\/h2>\n\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"single-cta__description\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>Construction consulting firm boosts budget reporting frequency 3x and gains incisive business insights<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a\n\t\t\t\t\t\thref=\"https:\/\/www.sage.com\/en-us\/success-stories\/aegis-project-controls\/\"\n\t\t\t\t\t\tclass=\"single-cta__button button button--primary\"\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tid=\"cta-id-35757\"\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tdata-button-location=\"cta_box\"\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t>Download<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1440\" height=\"810\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sage.com\/en-us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/GettyImages-1178346537-1440x810.jpg\" class=\"single-cta__image\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sage.com\/en-us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/GettyImages-1178346537-1440x810.jpg 1440w\" sizes=\"auto, (min-width: 48em) 33vw, 100vw\" \/>\t\t\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-budget-detail-grows-2x-with-25-less-time\">Budget Detail Grows 2x, with 25% Less Time<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Aegis, with nearly 150 employees, has realized the following results since deploying <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sage.com\/en-us\/sage-business-cloud\/intacct\/product-capabilities\/extended-capabilities\/financial-planning-budgeting\/\n\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sage Intacct Budgeting and Planning<\/a> in 2019:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\">Reduced budget creation time by 25%<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\">Saves up to five days in budget vs. actuals reporting preparation<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\">Accelerated budget vs. actuals reporting<\/span><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\">&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\">3<\/span><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\">x, from quarterly to monthly<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\">Increased scope and depth of budget data 2x<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\">Improved decision-making capabilities for executives and managers<\/span><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Aegis made its budgeting move after implementing the Sage Intacct accounting platform to replace a combination of QuickBooks for its general ledger and&nbsp;BillQuick&nbsp;for billing, time, and project accounting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Though Sage Intacct Budgeting and Planning was still new when Aegis licensed the accounting platform in 2018, its continued evolution prompted Aegis to assess and adopt the budgeting solution in 2019, giving it the unified finance platform it wanted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI liked the flexibility of Sage Intacct Budgeting and Planning, and how we could build a model, update numbers, and have it flow into the budget without making changes to a hundred different line items,\u201d MacDonald said. \u201cIntegration was a key factor as we wanted everything in one finance platform, so we could just click a button and sync data.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-better-headcount-planning-with-budget-analytics\">Better Headcount Planning with Budget Analytics<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Compared to Excel, MacDonald Aegis is spending one-quarter less time on budget creation with Sage Intacct, while incorporating information of greater scope and detail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI cut down time to build the budget by at least 25%, and we\u2019ve got double the data in it with line-item detail that wasn\u2019t possible with Excel,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, MacDonald has created employee profiles that account for salary, bonuses, and benefits, and can easily filter by profit center locations, client types, business units, and departments. That\u2019s delivering new data and insights for headcount planning that would have taken hours of reworking in Excel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s a lot more detail you can get, and it takes almost no time because it\u2019s already built into Sage Intacct Budgeting and Planning,\u201d MacDonald said. \u201cWhat&#8217;s really stood out for me is the ability to sync with dimensions in Sage Intacct accounting, and then add different dimensions or groups that filter through the budget.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MacDonald also has new ability to allocate shared services expenses by profit center locations, saving two days of manual work during budget creation and four hours a month on budget updates. It\u2019s also far easier to keep track of employees if they split time among different profit centers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-saving-up-to-five-days-in-budget-vs-actuals-reporting\">Saving Up to Five Days in Budget vs. Actuals Reporting<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Aegis has increased the frequency of budget vs. actuals reporting 3x, from quarterly to monthly, thanks to ease of use in Sage Intacct Budgeting and Planning. Reporting that took four or five days a quarter is now done in a half-hour each month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt takes about 30 minutes of just reviewing data, and we can expand our reporting beyond just a high-level rollup,\u201d MacDonald said. \u201cWe can see how each profit center is performing vs. budget each month, and we couldn\u2019t ever do that accurately before.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Profit center budget managers now have access via Sage Intacct dashboards to timely and accurate data, improving collaboration across the company and supporting data-driven business decisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the same time, Aegis has increased reforecasting frequency from quarterly to bi-weekly and has benefited from sophisticated scenario modeling capabilities. That proved especially valuable for cash flow planning when COVID-19 struck in March 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We had a slow-down period with COVID, and I used Sage Intacct to create and update scenarios to get a read on cash flow and big expense items that we could control,\u201d MacDonald said. &#8220;We were able to gain a lot more visibility and confidence in our cash flow because of the budget platform.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With those insights, Aegis had a foundation for decisions on issues such as deferring or reducing consultant raises and bonuses until the pandemic subsided.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-a-huge-turning-point-with-finance-modernization\">A \u2018Huge Turning Point\u2019 with Finance Modernization<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The addition of Sage Intacct Budgeting and Planning enhances the value of Aegis\u2019s Sage Intacct accounting platform, with the systems working in tandem to deliver groundbreaking efficiency and visibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MacDonald estimates overall accounting efficiency has risen 5x, while the company has instituted much more robust monthly close and reporting processes and can readily handle bank reconciliations and intercompany settlements that were problematic with its previous duo of QuickBooks\/BillQuick.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe can do monthly reporting on so many different levels now,\u201d MacDonald said. \u201cI\u2019m putting out 30 additional reports a month with Sage Intacct that I never could have run out of the old system.
