Keep a record of payments to employees<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s vital to record all salaries and payments and to ensure that every employee receives a payslip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Remember that you are responsible for registering for PAYE and UIF with the South African Revenue Service (SARS).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your employees are responsible for registering for income tax with SARS, and providing you with their income tax reference number.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Payslips must detail specific information, including gross and net amounts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This means that all salary deductions must be calculated correctly, including amounts for UIF, PAYE, contributions to retirement funds and medical aid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once this is done, you must report all payments and deductions to SARS when submitting your various tax returns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-2-make-sure-your-employee-records-are-up-to-date\">2. Make sure your employee records are up-to-date<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Employee records change all the time, and it\u2019s your responsibility to keep them up-to-date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Implement a system in your company that allows you to regularly review any changes of address, and bank account details.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you don\u2019t, you run various risks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-3-know-the-law\">3. Know the law<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">South Africa has some of the most stringent tax and labour law policies in the world. It\u2019s important to have a general understanding of the relevant laws.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you\u2019re not sure, spend some time on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sars.gov.za\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SARS<\/a> website to get some of the information you need, or hire an accountant who can help you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-4-comply-with-sars\">4. Comply with SARS<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">SARS requires different kinds of information from you throughout the tax year, depending on the size of your business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your duty to the Revenue Service is to make sure that all submitted information is correct.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If there are errors, you may be asked to pay more than you owe, or you could incur a fine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-5-have-technology-on-your-side\">5.
