Sustainability and society

When it comes to sustainability, we believe it is our responsibility to make a real difference and to act as a role model for our industry and for those in our network.

Our sustainability journey has informed how we show up for SMBs, from helping them get started with carbon accounting, to making their voices heard by policymakers and regulators. We know that taking action starts with us, but the impact we create spreads beyond us. We call this The Multiplier Effect.

Our Strategy : The Multiplier Effect

The Sage Sustainability and Society strategy, The Multiplier Effect, supports our purpose and business model. It also represents our commitment to serve all of our stakeholders, including communities and the planet.

Our strategy has three key pillars—Protect the Planet, Tech for Good, and Human by Design—all underpinned by Sustainability by Design, which is about integrating sustainability deep into our business and operations. Each of the pillars is supported by clear priorities and a robust action plan. This evolved approach drives further accountability across the business and reflects a closer alignment with our strategic business priorities.

Protect the Planet

The Protect the Planet pillar is our commitment to fight climate change and drive a faster global transition to net zero. We are doing this by cutting down our own emissions and empowering SMBs to take climate action. We are delivering this commitment by halving our own emissions by 2030 and becoming net zero by 2040, empowering SMBs to get to net zero and by advocating for regulatory frameworks to support the transition to a low carbon economy, whilst championing the role of SMBs.

Tech for Good

Tech for Good is our commitment to supporting SMBs and communities through our trusted and thriving Sage Network.

We are committed to embedding data and AI ethics into the fabric of Sage. We will expand our Trust and Security Hub to support SMBs to go digital safely, and through the work of Sage Foundation, we will partner with non-profits, Sage volunteers, and Sage partners around the world, to tackle inequality and provide access to opportunity.

Human by Design

Through our Human by Design pillar we’re committed to building a diverse, human-centred culture, and we’re achieving this by fostering diversity, equity, inclusion and wellbeing, in our workplace and beyond.

We care for colleagues by championing inclusive, progressive, and healthy working environments.

Sustainability by Design

Sustainability by design is about how we hardwire sustainability at Sage, integrating sustainability considerations into all that we do - from the products we build, to the process and policies that support how we operate.

The report has been prepared in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) 2021 Standards, as well as the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) for the Software and IT Services Industry.

Our FY24 Climate Report outlines our climate strategy, including Sage’s Net Zero Transition Plan, and our progress in FY24 towards achieving our carbon emission reduction targets.
