Stories from apprentices

“I started here last October after I completed my A levels and my time, thus far, has been great! I get a lot of career development support from my team and especially from my manager who like me, started as an apprentice here. So, he is always empowering me and pushing me to be better every time and is constantly exposing me to more and more of the world of accounting and marketing.”

Megan
Channel Marketing Apprentice

“Working in the Sage Business Cloud customer services team has really stretched my brain because it's one of those jobs where you're working sort of somewhere between customer services, credit and credit control and complaints. There are so many different moving parts to it, but it always really keeps you engaged, which is something that I think for me especially that I found rewarding.”

Jack
Sales Executive Apprentice

“There is so much to get your teeth sunk into here and I think that I have grown immensely in the last year but if I had to pick a set of skills, I have really gotten opportunities to advance, those would have to be my creative and critical thinking skills especially with a big part of my job being social media.”

The application flow

Steps

01

Applications are open from January to April for apprentice roles.

Within a week of applying, a real person will review your application. If they feel you could be a match, they’ll invite you to a video interview.
03

About 1-2 weeks prior to the assessment centre date listed on the job advert, selected candidates will be invited to a virtual, informal team building activity and opportunity to meet their future function.
04

Onboarding

Within three working days after the assessment, you’ll get a final decision. Candidates who aren’t chosen will receive valuable feedback. Those who are chosen will start pre-boarding in July to October then later embark on an exciting onboarding programme alongside fellow apprentices in October.

They’re full-time and last between 18 months and 4 years depending on the role.

You don’t have to be pursuing a career in IT, data or product. We offer apprenticeship opportunities in several functions varying from year to year.

You’ll get tailored on-the-job training paired with classroom learning. About 20% of your time will be reserved for off-the-job learning. By the end of the programme, you’ll have earned formal qualifications giving your CV a boost.

Yes. We will always strive to find you a suitable role after your apprentice programme ends. The early careers team will work with you and your manager throughout your journey.

Every month, apprentices, interns and non-tech graduates come together virtually to connect. You’ll grow relationships that you started when you onboarded together and will get to learn more about the business too.

Definitely. Our apprentice roles are carefully designed around live projects with real responsibility. Our millions of customers are counting on our products to help them run their businesses better, and we need every person at Sage to help us achieve this.

Our apprentices are hybrid spending 2-3 days per week in the office. We want you to get the most out of your Sage experience and found that office days spent collaborating with the team accelerate growth. All colleagues, however, have the option to work-away for up to 10 weeks.

Our culture is rooted in seeking perspectives from all walks of life. If you’re in the UK, you’ll meet our entire executive leadership team and our CEO, Steve Hare. Steve also regularly speaks to all colleagues about the importance of early talent referring to them as “inspirational new voices”. Whatever your title, you have a seat at the table.

Embrace it! You’re in an active learning period as an apprentice. We want you to always be curious and ask lots of questions. People at Sage are approachable and welcome the opportunity to support our Early Careers community. If you’re looking for input from an expert, reach out to your mentor. Or, if you’d rather bounce thoughts off of a fellow colleague, your peer mentor, or ‘Buddy’ as we call them at Sage, is a Teams chat or desk away.

We’re so glad you care, because so do we. Check out how we’re doing our part in making the world a better place, and how you can contribute too when you join Sage. Explore our DEI page.
