Outdated system holding company back from expansion plans

Acumentis relied on an outdated, homegrown accounting system with limited functionality and multiple bugs that could result in contradictory numbers. The accounting team undertook manual data entry, extensive re-keying of information and Excel pivot tables to generate financials, while management confidence in the resulting information was low.

I realised very quickly when I joined Acumentis that there was no way we could go on an M&A trail and double the size of the company with the existing platform.

Creating efficiencies and reducing costs

Once live with Sage Intacct, Acumentis acquired two companies, tripling the company’s size and increasing the accounting team to 19 professionals. With breakthrough efficiencies through Intacct, Acumentis trimmed the team to six finance professionals, saving around $700,000 (US) a year. It also cut its monthly close from 15 to five business days, a 67% reduction.

We’re at least 80% more efficient in accounting. Intacct is a very easy system to use, and with optimizations and integrations we’ve achieved very high efficiencies.

Very powerful information for performance and growth

Acumentis has seen big transformations in reporting by integrating Sage Intacct with a business intelligence and performance management tool. As a result, the firm is now able to budget, forecast, and track gross margin per valuer based on revenue generated, salary, and commissions. It’s also allowed it to build a backbone that is easy to scale as the business continues to grow.

The critical thing is that we can just bolt on new businesses easily without adding infrastructure and support. Sage Intacct certainly allows us to do that.
