Learn how we harness the power of data to help reveal hurdles and opportunities to businesses, guiding decision-makers toward a impactful, sustainable future.
In collaboration with Smart Data Foundry and The Centre for Economics and Business Research (Cebr), the Sage Small Business Tracker provides a quarterly financial analysis of anonymised data from up to approximately 200,000 businesses. The data contains helpful insights for policymakers on the challenges and opportunities facing SMBs to help make more informed and targeted interventions that support them.

Key Highlights
"Financial data holds untapped potential to understand the realities of UK economic wellbeing. Smart Data Foundry exists to responsibly unlock this data for researchers, NGOs, policy makers and the public sector, enabling meaningful solutions to challenges like economic growth. We deliver this mission by working with our trusted data partners, like Sage UK, to access de-identified data. Backed by robust data sharing agreements and the security of our data safe haven, this partnership enables us to collaborate with Sage and Cebr to publish a quarterly Small Business Tracker. The Tracker provides key insights into how the sector is performing in real-term against key performance indicators, and helps government and decision makers prepare for market fluctuations that can impact productivity and growth."
Dougie Robb
Smart Data Foundry CEO
“Small businesses, by which I mean freelancers, sole traders and micro firms as well as small ones, are crucial to the UK economy. They employ nearly two-thirds of the UK’s workforce, are responsible for at least three-quarters of innovation, and are the talent that drives the success of their bigger customers. They also have a huge role to play in the levelling up agenda given how close they are to local communities. The work Smart Data Foundry is leading with Sage Group to publish the quarterly Small Business Tracker is a vital piece of the jigsaw. We need to be able to use good accurate data to create actionable insights to support the sector and provide a regular health check for this vital part of the UK economy.”
