FAQs

Carbon accounting, also known as greenhouse gas (GHG) accounting, is a method used by companies to calculate the amount of greenhouse gas emissions they produce.

Carbon accounting software is an essential tool for businesses that want to reduce their environmental impact and contribute to the fight against climate change. A carbon accounting platform calculates how much carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases a company emits.

By tracking and measuring their carbon emissions, businesses can identify areas where they can reduce their environmental impact, make informed decisions about sustainable practices, and set goals for reducing their emissions in the future.

Carbon Accounting will connect with your accounting software, drawing on data you already have, to build an initial automated carbon footprint based on a spend-based method.

For greater accuracy, our carbon accounting solution also uses an activity-based method. We will ask you for additional operational information, such as employee commuting, which can't be drawn from your accounting data.

Learn more about Carbon Accounting fundamentals.

Carbon Accounting will only be available to UK customers. This is because our current calculation methodology relies predominantly on UK data sources and is based on UK industry averages. However, there are plans on our roadmap to expand Sage Carbon Accounting software to other regions.

In order to speed up the carbon accounting process, we recommend syncing with your accounting software. We will be integrating with the following:

  • Sage Business Cloud Accounting (also sometimes referred to as Sage One or Sage Accounting)
  • Sage 50
  • Sage 50 Cloud
  • Xero
  • QuickBooks
  • FreeAgent

Yes, you can. We are building Carbon Accounting so that you won’t need to connect it to your accounting platform to create a business carbon footprint.
