What is carbon- dioxide equivalent (CO₂e)?
Carbon- dioxide equivalent or CO₂ equivalent (CO₂e) is a metric used to compare the emissions from various greenhouse gases (GHGs) based on their global-warming potential.
CO₂e is calculated by converting amounts of other greenhouse gases to the equivalent amount of carbon dioxide that would have the same global warming potential.
For example, a commonly used refrigerant gas, R-410a has a global-warming potential 2,088 times greater than carbon dioxide. As such, the carbon dioxide equivalent (CO₂e) of 1kg of R-410a would be 2,088kg.
