7 habits of highly effective people

1. The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R Covey

This is one of the first books I read when I wanted to understand more about personal development and mindset, and it was a great one to start with.

With more than 15 million copies sold, it’s one that you can go back to time after time.

In fact, as I write this, I think I will read it again.

This book shares the seven habits Stephen believes are imperative to becoming truly successful in life and business.

He focuses these habits around the character ethics (i.e. what you are made up of inside) rather than just working on what people see on the outside.

If you haven’t read this book, you will still recognise a lot of these principles, concepts, and quotes that are often referenced in so many other books on the topic.

You Are A Badass

2. You Are A Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness And Start Living An Awesome Life by Jen Sincero

Sometimes when it comes to mindset you need gentleness, kindness and love and sometimes you need a straight-talking kick up the rear.

And this is what you get when you read You Are A Badass.

This book is also a good introduction to mindset as Jen herself shares that she was into the spiritual/self-help world. But she also knew that even though her life was OK, she wanted to get more out of it.

She went on a journey of reading all the books, going to all the events, and trying all the different ways she could to create a better life.

This book is her summary of the things that worked and her take on them.

This read will help you become more self-aware, understand what you want in life, and give you the courage to go for it.

The 5 Second Rule

3. The 5 Second Rule by Mel Robbins

People can often think that mindset is all about meditation and being Zen. But sometimes we just want someone to give us something practical that we can do to make a difference in our life.

Mel shares a simple but highly effective strategy to changing your life. It’s so simple that Mel herself talks about how it sounds like a gimmick.

But this book proves that this strategy is rooted in science and proves exactly why it works.

She shares how feelings and emotions have a big effect on what we do (or don’t do) in our lives. Using the five second rule, Mel shows you how to get past those feelings.

She also gives practical tips on staying productive and having a morning routine that sets you up for success.

One of the things I love about this book is her personal story and how she used the strategy to improve her own life.

Think Like A Monk

4. Think Like A Monk by Jay Shetty

The premise of this book is about finding a way to tune out of the external world and focus more on ourselves, who we are, and our values.

By doing this, we can move towards gratefulness, service, and compassion.

Jay believes that this is the way for people to live a more fulfilled, happy, and meaningful life.

Jay doesn’t just share why we should think like a monk, though. The book is packed with practical strategies such as the spot, stop, and swap technique as a way to address negativity and fear.

For me, the abundance of concepts, ideas, and strategies to try, all supported by interesting stories, is one of the best things about this book.

The Big Leap

5. The Big Leap by Gay Hendricks

Have you ever wanted something new in your life? Or wanted to get to the next level only to be stopped by something every time you try?

Plot twist: what if it was you all along? This is what Gay talks about in The Big Leap.

What if you’re self-sabotaging? Every time you get close to something amazing, you might be the one stopping yourself from achieving it.

But why would you do that?

Gay explains that we self-sabotage to protect ourselves, because this change is taking us out of our comfort zone.

Luckily, he has some advice for how we can move through the sabotage using practical strategies such as the Upper Limit Mindset and working in your Zone of Genius.
