New Sage Payroll feature cuts payday admin for small businesses and accountants

By bringing payroll and salary payments into one connected workflow, Sage Payroll helps small businesses and accountants reduce payday admin, cut the risk of payment errors, and pay employees with greater confidence.

London, UK, 8th September 2026 - Sage, the leader in accounting, financial HR and payroll technology for small and medium-sized businesses, today announced Salary Payments, a new Sage Payroll feature that allows employers to approve and send employee salary payments directly from their connected bank account after completing payroll.

Designed for small businesses and accountants, Salary Payments brings payroll and payments together in one place, helping customers save time and simplify payday. For small businesses, paying employees still means switching between payroll software and online banking, adding extra admin and increasing the risk of mistakes. Salary Payments is designed to remove those manual steps, making payday simpler and giving employers and accountants greater confidence that employees will be paid correctly and on time.

John Evans, Director and co-owner of Kiki's Kabin and The Treehouse, an indoor family entertainment centre in North Tyneside, estimates Salary Payments has reduced the time he spends processing payroll by around 20 percent. Before using the feature, payday involved manually moving payroll information into online banking and carrying out multiple checks before employees could be paid. He now has greater peace of mind that employees will be paid correctly and on time.

"I've done payroll for 30 years and every time you process it, it's stressful. But I now know that when I process payroll in Sage Payroll, it's going to pull those figures into Barclays correctly, accurately and quickly. For the sake of clicking a few buttons, that's amazing."

For Sage, experiences like John's highlight why removing unnecessary steps from payday matters.

"Running payroll should end with people getting paid; quickly, accurately and with confidence," said Katie Powell, VP Venture Growth at Sage. "For too long, businesses have completed a pay run in their payroll software and then had to start a separate payment process. That creates extra admin, duplicate checks and avoidable risk. Salary Payments brings those steps together inside Sage Payroll, helping make payday simpler and making money flow more smoothly for businesses and their people."

Salary Payments is powered by Sage's partnership with Crezco, which provides the Open Banking connectivity behind the service.

Ralph Rogge, CEO and Founder of Crezco, said: "Every month millions of SMEs pay their employees. Almost universally that process is clunky, requires multiple platforms, and takes days from payment authorisation to the funds actually settling in an employee's bank account. Crezco and Sage eliminate all those challenges with Salary Payments, helping SMEs and the accountants and bookkeepers who support them make payroll payments faster, safer and easier with every pay run."

Salary Payments is now available to Sage Payroll customers, giving small businesses and accountants a simpler way to move payroll calculations to employee payments in one connected workflow, helping to reduce mistakes and simplify payday admin.
