What is an emission factor?

1 min read

An emission factor (or emissions intensity factor) is a metric that outlines the rate of emission for a given activity level under a specific set of operating conditions. For example, an emission factor for a 1.6 diesel car will tell you the quantity of GHG emissions produced from burning 1L of diesel in said car. In essence, it describes the relationship between the amount of a gas produced and the amount of raw material processed or burnt in the process.
