Sage named UK’s Most Sustainable Company by TIME Magazine

FTSE 100 tech company also received gold medal from EcoVadis for sustainability policies and actions.

Newcastle, UK, 31 July 2024Sage, the leader in accounting, financial, HR and payroll technology for small and mid-sized businesses (SMBs), has been named one of TIME’s World’s Most Sustainable Companies, ranking #1 in the United Kingdom and #59 globally, on a list of 500 companies.

TIME and its research partner, Statista, evaluated businesses on over 20 key performance measures, including climate program participation, renewable energy use, and reductions in Scope 1 and 2 emissions, through independent and unbiased analyses. This led Sage Group to a score of 73.92, against the top score of 88.86.

Sage has also been awarded a Gold Medal by EcoVadis, a global assessment used by businesses in 180+ countries to measure sustainability across their supply chains. The result places Sage amongst the top 5% percent of companies assessed in the past 12 months, and showcases the company’s progress on environmental issues, labour and human rights concerns, ethics and sustainable procurement.

These recognitions come shortly after being featured in the Financial Times’ Europe’s Climate Leaders 2024 list, which commends businesses that have achieved the greatest reduction in their Scope 1 and 2 emissions over a five-year period, as well as those providing transparency around Scope 3 emissions. Sage was recognised alongside the likes of Puma, Accenture and L’Oréal.

Sage’s climate strategy is focused on four key areas to help it progress on its journey to net-zero:

  • Making its supply chain sustainable;
  • Managing colleagues in sustainable behaviour;
  • And making its products and places more sustainable.

Sage has committed to a 50% reduction in Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions by 2030 against a 2019 baseline, and to achieving net-zero by 2040. Both goals have been validated the Science-Based Targets Initiative (SBTi).

Surinder Sond, Executive Vice President of Sustainability & Foundation at Sage, said: “We’ve built a solid foundation so far with ambitious targets, wide stakeholder engagement, and a multi-faceted sustainability strategy. We're proud of the progress to date, but we know we have more to do, both internally and in supporting our SMB customers on this important journey. We’re grateful for the recognition we’re receiving as it shows we’re on the right path to becoming an effective change agent for our many communities and our planet.”
