Sage Pathways: start your career with us

If you are living with a disability, Sage offers an opportunity to start your career in a great place.

Are you living with a disability and looking looking to start your career in an inspiring and supportive workplace?

Our Sage Pathways programme, based at our South Africa head office in Midrand, is designed to help people living with a disability build a career.

Sage Pathways South Africa is a 12-month internship programme starting in October 2023 where you will be recruited into an internship role in our finance operations or a sales learnership role and provided with a 12-month programme of training and support which may lead to a variety of career pathways.

You will start your journey with us learning all about our products, services, customers and business. From here, you will move into one of our internship roles sitting at the heart of what we value most – helping our customers succeed.

A coach and mentor will guide you on the job and through those 12 months so you will have lots of support and direction. You will also be introduced to a Sage ‘buddy’ to help you navigate the business and your work start (as we know sometimes that can be the tough bit).

How do I apply for the Sage Pathways programme?

  1. To get you going we will be running a Sage Pathways Work Readiness event at Mthombo Hall, Dobsonville, Soweto on 2 Aug 2023. You’ll explore what it’s like to work at Sage and find out more about the programme and the roles. We’ll also help you prepare for our application process and get you ‘recruitment ready’ with sessions on interview skills, building your personal brand and returning with confidence. There will be plenty of Sage people on hand to talk to and answer your questions including mentors and buddies, as well as colleagues from the finance operations, sales and the recruitment teams. You can tweet about the event on the day using #sagepathways.
  2. You will be given the link to apply for one of these positions after you attend the event on 2 Aug. If your application is successful, we will invite you for an interview over the phone. You will talk to one of our recruitment team – they will spend time chatting to you about the role in more detail and will also ask you some questions about yourself and why you want to apply for the Sage Pathways programme.
  3. You can register your interest to attend this event by emailing [email protected].
  4. We have produced this interview tips & preparation guide which we hope will be useful now, or when you apply for other roles in the future.
  5. If your phone interview is successful, we will then invite you to an interview with our managers.
  6. After the interviews, we will then contact you to let you know whether we would like to offer you a place on the programme.

Starting with us

If you are one of the successful new starters, your first day will introduce you to life at Sage as well as meeting your fellow new starter colleagues. Your first week will be focused on providing you with that core foundation knowledge of your supported skill which we’ll build on week by week.

You will also meet your coach, line manager and buddy and be provided with a full overview of your training and coaching programme.

Pathways case studies

Customer services

“I have personally had an amazing experience at Sage. All of the colleagues are extremely welcoming and have shown interest in who I am and where I have come from. They treat me as if I’m just like any other one of their colleagues. As an organization they have a lot of understanding for needing to take medical time or if something may take a little longer. I personally believe I have done really well since joining the organization and I work with an amazing team.”

Financial operations

“The Sage pathways program for me has been nothing but an excellent learning curve, I have so far learnt so much about myself and I think I am much more confident in myself since joining Sage as also the team that I have been in has been nothing but supportive of me and my disability and not to mention the amazing manager that Elaine has been. I wanted to add on there as this program is honestly an industry changer as I think I have been let down by so many and there came Sage and it has really opened up a world of possibilities with this program.”
