Supplemental rate
Wages are considered supplemental by the IRS and state and local tax authorities, when the wages are in addition to standard pay for hours of service, such as bonus pay. The employer is required to withhold taxes on supplemental wages at the supplemental income tax rate as defined by the tax authority.
