What makes a great leader?

Published · 1 min read

Not too long ago I ran across a blog post with some top presidential quotes that got me thinking about what makes a great leader. Here’s the quote that caught my attention most of all: “A great politician, just like a great business leader, can inspire action and with just a few well-crafted words.” I like how John Quincy Adams worded it, “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more, and become more, you are a leader.”

Leadership is influencing others. You don’t have to have a big fancy title to be a great leader. Here are some of the traits that I see in a good leader:

  • Honesty
  • A strong focus and staying the course
  • Respect for others
  • Being genuine
  • Good communication skills

I believe that employees value strong leaders, leaders that incent their employees to take pride in their work and to do their very best. A good leader will lead by example.

What do you look for in a leader? And how does a good leader help a business to be successful?
