The Ford Family Foundation transforms its financial processes with Sage Intacct

Growing foundation leverages Sage’s modern cloud technology to rapidly respond to Covid-19 crisis and set itself for further expansion moving forward.

Organizational evolution leaves finance team behind

In recent years, the Ford Family Foundation has shifted its focus from being primarily a grant maker behind the scenes, towards a “changemaker” with more strategic involvement and partnership in programmatic work. This transition resulted in greater financial complexity, and the finance team was struggling to keep up.

It was really frustrating that we were still using outdated methods as our payables and other processes became a lot more complicated.

Fast, flexible working in the cloud

By deploying Sage Intacct, The Ford Family Foundation’s lean finance team has been able to free up 40 hours of weekly data entry for more value-added work, even with transactions doubling. It also meant the foundation was perfectly placed to adapt to remote working imposed by Covid-19, with the finance team able to work collaboratively in the cloud.

We’re really seeing the benefits of the investments we made to transform from ‘dinosaur’ processes to best practices that are ahead of most of our peers.

A partner to the board

Sage Intacct helps the team easily roll up their finances into reliable board reports. Its nonprofit board reporting package covers not only high-level performance metrics and income from investments, but department and program-specific expenses as well, proactively answering common board member questions.

Sage Intacct not only helped me get my life back, it helped change the relationship between our finance department and the rest of the organization.
